Senate vote on Clarity Act impacts crypto markets

The US Senate's impending vote on the Clarity Act has created apprehension among cryptocurrency investors. The bill, which has been under consideration for over a year and previously passed the House of Representatives in July 2025, seeks to establish clearer regulations for the cryptocurrency and blockchain technology sector.

Passage of the legislation requires at least 60 votes in the Senate. While it has Republican backing, its advancement hinges on the support of several Democratic senators. Months of negotiations and even concessions from the President have not guaranteed the bill's approval, leading to market uncertainty.

This uncertainty is directly reflected in the state of the crypto markets. As trading opened on Tuesday, the value of leading cryptocurrencies and stocks of companies associated with the crypto industry saw a decline. Bitcoin (BTC-USD) fell by 1.05%, XRP by 1.79%, and Ethereum (ETH-USD) by 1.13%.

Stocks of companies providing services to the crypto industry also experienced a downturn. Circle Internet Group Inc. (CRCL) dropped 5.05%, Coinbase Global Inc. (COIN) fell 4.49%, and Robinhood Markets Inc. (HOOD) was down 2.20%. Shares of mining firms, including CleanSpark (CLSK), MARA Holdings (MARA), and Riot Platforms (RIOT), also showed moderate declines.

The Clarity Act follows last year's Genius Act, which was the first federal crypto regulation in the US and became law on July 18, 2025.
