Senckenberg Centre presents illustrated flora of Burkina Faso and Mali

The Senckenberg Centre for Human Evolution and Palaeoenvironment has officially presented its comprehensive publication, "Flore illustrée du Burkina Faso et du Mali," in Geneva. The event highlighted the collaborative effort in documenting the flora of the two West African nations.

Attending the ceremony were Burkina Faso's Minister of Science and Innovation, Prof. Dr. Adjima Thiombiano, and Mali's Minister of Science and Innovation, Prof. Dr. Bouréma Kansaye, both of whom joined via ZOOM. The Ambassador of Burkina Faso, Madame Sabine Bakyono Kanzie, was also present. Ministers and the ambassador spoke about the significance of the region's plant life.

Senckenberg was recognized for its excellent cooperation and the successful production of the high-quality publication. Funding from Swiss Development Cooperation ensured that the "Flore" is also available digitally, free of charge. The publication consists of two volumes detailing pteridophytes, monocotyledons, and dicotyledons, featuring extensive photographs and illustrations.

Following the presentation, a reception was held at the Geneva Botanical Garden. A preparatory meeting for those involved took place the evening prior to discuss the project's outcomes and future implications for botanical research and conservation in Burkina Faso and Mali.
