The Senckenberg Museum of Natural History in Görlitz opened a special exhibition on May 22, 2026, titled "Eingepackt & Ausgepackt – Our Way to the New Senckenberg Campus." This exhibition focuses on the museum's most significant undertaking since the construction of its current building in 1860: the phased relocation to the new Senckenberg campus.

The museum's scientific collections, comprising over six million objects, along with its library and laboratories, which have been spread across multiple city locations, will be consolidated at a single, shared site. The new campus aims to enhance opportunities for research, teaching, and scientific exchange.

Through selected examples, the exhibition showcases the diversity of the museum's holdings and illustrates the logistical, conservational, and organizational challenges associated with such a move. Visitors gain a unique opportunity to look behind the scenes of this comprehensive transformation process and understand the museum's path toward its future working environment.

The opening featured addresses by Museum Director Kristin Baber, followed by insights into the relocation logistics from Sylke Schneider, administrative director of the research institute. Professor Christiane Ritz, a researcher, then presented on research and collections through the ages.
