This figure represents an increase from 75% in 2025 and a significant jump from the 19% recorded when Sepsis Alliance first began tracking awareness.
The survey, which polled 1,000 U.S. adults, offers a current snapshot of public understanding of sepsis, a life-threatening condition that arises when the body's response to an infection damages its own tissues. Recent public health campaigns and media coverage are likely contributors to the rising awareness.
Sepsis Alliance stated that higher awareness may lead to earlier recognition and treatment, which is critical for reducing sepsis-related mortality. The organization continues its efforts to disseminate information and educate healthcare professionals.
