ServiceNow Launches New AI Service Desk Within Slack and Teams

IT service management company ServiceNow has launched a new AI-driven product called Flow. The conversational AI service desk integrates directly into Slack and Microsoft Teams, aiming to address the growing demand for in-tool employee support.

Flow is designed to expedite IT support requests, such as password resets and application access, using agentic artificial intelligence. ServiceNow states the product can be set up within a day, requiring no complex implementation projects or database migrations. The company aims to reach a broad range of small and medium-sized businesses, what it terms the "Fortune 500,000."

ServiceNow Chairman and CEO Bill McDermott highlighted that Flow offers enterprise-grade AI power without enterprise complexity, featuring a consumption-based pricing model. He asserted that ServiceNow's extensive experience in managing enterprise workflows provides a competitive edge over rivals focused solely on coding without a deep understanding of business processes.

Flow was developed in response to customer requests for ServiceNow's automation capabilities without a full-scale implementation of its traditional platform. ServiceNow President Amit Zavery described the development process as akin to a "well-funded startup," where a small team was given the autonomy to build the solution rapidly, leveraging the company's existing expertise in IT service management and AI.

The new product aims to attract new customer segments that might not have previously considered ServiceNow's broader platforms. Analysts view Flow as part of a larger trend requiring established software vendors to offer more agile and easily adoptable solutions to remain competitive against new AI-native rivals and internal development efforts.
