Several Supermarkets in Northern Saxony Close
Several "Nah & Gut" supermarkets in Northern Saxony are unexpectedly closing their doors. The reason cited is increased operating and personnel costs.

Several "Nah & Gut" chain supermarkets in Northern Saxony are unexpectedly closing down. On Saturday, the stores in Beilrode, Doberschütz, Laußig, Hohenprießnitz, Hohburg, and Riesa will cease operations. The markets in Wermsdorf, Torgau, Jesewitz, and Falkenhain are also at risk if no solution is found.
The operator attributes the closures to rising operating and personnel costs, making it impossible to run the branches economically. The company is reportedly exploring new operational concepts that could function entirely or partially without staff.
The municipality of Arzberg is once again left without a grocery store, as the "Frischemarkt" that opened there in March 2026 has closed. The operator, Färber, a large butcher company from Belgern, cited business and economic reasons. Arzberg's mayor, Holger Reinboth, expressed disappointment with the short notice.
Mayor Reinboth stated that three months is not enough time to gain a clear picture of operations and believes a solution can be found, hoping for a reopening before the end of the year. The municipality of Arzberg is located on the Elbe River, approximately twelve kilometers from Torgau.
