Severed Cable Disrupts Hundreds of Flights Across US

Hundreds of flights faced cancellations and delays across the United States on Monday, following an incident where construction workers inadvertently severed a fiber optic cable essential for air traffic control in New Jersey.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported that a circuit failure led to the discovery of the cut cable. The outage significantly impacted airports across the Northeast, leading to ground stops at all three major airports serving New York City.

Verizon, the telecommunications company, stated it bears no responsibility for the incident. The company attributed the cable cut to construction contractors working in the vicinity who "dug up and cut our cable."

The event has raised concerns regarding the security of critical infrastructure and its reliance on third-party contractors for maintenance and operation.
