SGL Carbon Expands Solar Power Capacity at Austrian Site

SGL Carbon has expanded its renewable energy generation at its Ort im Innkreis site in Austria by commissioning new photovoltaic (PV) carports. This expansion brings the site's total solar capacity to approximately 870 kilowatt-peak (kWp).

The new PV carports add 252 kWp of capacity to the company's own power generation. The project was undertaken in cooperation with VERBUND, an Austrian energy company. The installations aim to increase local renewable electricity production and protect parked vehicles from the elements.

SGL Carbon stated the expansion is part of a broader effort to increase renewable energy use across its sites and support sustainability goals. The solar panels generate electricity while shielding vehicles from direct sun and harsh winter weather.

Additionally, ten electric vehicle charging stations have been installed at the facility. These stations allow employees to charge their electric vehicles while at work, enhancing the practicality of sustainable mobility. The company expects the new solar facilities to reduce its carbon footprint and contribute to a more sustainable energy supply at the Austrian location.
