Shamieh Law Files Federal Lawsuit After Police Cruiser Fatally Strikes 75-Year-Old Woman
Shamieh Law has filed a federal civil rights and wrongful death lawsuit on behalf of the surviving daughters of Evelyn Alexander, a 75-year-old woman struck and killed by a Shreveport Police Department patrol vehicle on February 3, 2026.

Shamieh Law has filed a federal civil rights and wrongful death lawsuit against the City of Shreveport and an unnamed police officer. The suit stems from the February 3, 2026, death of Evelyn Alexander, 75, who was struck and killed by a Shreveport Police Department patrol vehicle. The Police Department has acknowledged that the patrol unit involved in the collision was not operating with its emergency lights activated.
The lawsuit, filed June 15, 2026, in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana, alleges that Alexander was crossing Greenwood Road when the marked patrol vehicle struck her. The vehicle was responding to a call at the time of the incident. Despite receiving emergency medical treatment, Alexander suffered fatal injuries, according to the complaint.
Plaintiffs, Alexander's daughters Dawn and Nyota Lair, allege the officer failed to maintain a proper lookout, operated the vehicle unsafely, and did not activate emergency warning equipment as required by law. The complaint further asserts that the City of Shreveport maintained customs, policies, and failures in training and supervision that contributed to Alexander's death.
The lawsuit seeks preservation of all evidence, including body camera footage, dispatch audio, and vehicle data recorders. The plaintiffs are seeking compensatory and wrongful death damages, along with other relief, and have requested a jury trial in the federal court.
