Chinese company Shandong HiTHIUM commenced production on August 7 at the world's first integrated industrial park dedicated to long-duration energy storage (LDES) in the Luxi New Area of Heze. The facility is designed for scalable energy distribution.
The park's launch represents a significant step towards the commercialization of LDES technology. Shandong HiTHIUM has developed solutions that enable energy to be stored for considerably longer periods than traditional short-duration batteries, thereby supporting the integration of renewable energy sources into the power grid.
The company stated that the Heze facility will become the world's largest production base for LDES solutions. This scale of production is expected to facilitate the development of more cost-effective and widely available long-duration energy storage systems, which is crucial for a transition to a more stable and reliable electricity grid.
