Shanghai Port achieved a new daily record for container handling on August 1, 2026, with a throughput of 203,881 TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units). This figure surpasses the previous record set on June 9, 2026, which was 187,312 TEUs.

This achievement highlights the port's operational capacity and its ability to manage high volumes, especially after recovering from disruptions. The surge in container traffic comes after a period impacted by severe weather.

In mid-July 2026, Typhoon "Bavi" caused approximately four days of disruption to port operations due to extreme weather conditions. Following the typhoon's passage, a significant number of vessels arrived concurrently, leading to congestion and accumulated cargo.

Since resuming full operations on July 14, 2026, the port has been operating at full capacity. During the recovery phase, Shanghai Port maintained an average daily throughput of 172,000 TEUs.

For the first half of 2026 (January-June), Shanghai Port handled over 28 million TEUs, a 6.2% increase year-on-year. The Yangshan Port area alone processed over 15 million TEUs, an 8.1% increase during the same period.
