Shanxi Hosts Global Cultural Heritage Dialogue

Shanxi Province, China, concluded its International Cultural Heritage Week on Tuesday in the ancient city of Yuci, Jinzhong. Under the theme "Unity for Prosperity, Heritage for Eternity," the event gathered diplomatic envoys, foreign scholars, cultural heritage specialists, and young creators from around the globe to promote intercultural communication.

Key highlights included a grand opening ceremony, a light sculpture show, and immersive experiences of intangible cultural heritage. Three thematic panel discussions addressed common challenges in heritage preservation amid globalization and digital transformation, the role of youth in transmitting cultural heritage, and innovative approaches to international cultural dissemination.

The province of Shanxi boasts significant cultural assets, including well-preserved wooden structures dating back to the Tang Dynasty (618-907) and the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368). The event emphasized the role of digital technologies in revitalizing and preserving ancient sites, exemplified by the immersive digital exhibition of the Yingxian Wooden Tower.

Speakers, such as Md. Nazmul Islam, Ambassador of Bangladesh to China, and Evandro Menezes de Carvalho, a professor of international law from Brazil, highlighted Shanxi's importance as a cradle of Chinese civilization. They stressed that ancient sites represent a shared spiritual heritage for all humanity. Mian Abrar Hussain, a journalist from Pakistan Today, noted China's innovative model for heritage conservation using digital tools as a valuable lesson for the international community.
