Shanxi Province Hosts Global Cultural Heritage Dialogue
An international cultural heritage week concluded in Shanxi, China, bringing together global experts to discuss preservation strategies and digital transformation.
JINZHONG, China – The 2026 International Cultural Heritage Protection Week concluded on Tuesday in the ancient city of Yuci, Shanxi province, under the theme "Unity for Prosperity, Heritage for Eternity."
The event convened diplomatic envoys, international academics, and cultural heritage specialists to foster cross-cultural communication. Key activities included a ceremony, a light sculpture show, and three roundtable discussions focusing on challenges in heritage preservation amidst globalization and digital change, the role of youth, and innovative approaches to cultural outreach.
Shanxi province is noted for its significant cultural assets, including three surviving wooden structures from the Tang Dynasty (618-907). Md. Nazmul Islam, Bangladesh's ambassador to China, highlighted Shanxi's historical importance as a cradle of Chinese civilization.
A guided tour, "Discovering Shanxi's Ancient Chinese Architecture," accompanied the event, allowing participants to trace the history of Tang Dynasty wooden architecture. The Yingxian Wooden Tower featured an immersive digital exhibition, enabling virtual exploration of the structure. Mian Abrar Hussain, a senior journalist for Pakistan Today, commented on China's pioneering use of digital tools for heritage conservation and exhibition, suggesting it offers a replicable model for the global community.
