Sharp has released its AQUOS R11 smartphone, which features the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 mobile platform. The device deviates from the standard processor configuration by employing a 1+4+1 core design instead of the typical eight cores.

The six-core version of the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 includes one Cortex-X4 'super core' running at 3.2GHz, four Cortex-A720 'big' cores at 2.8GHz, and a single Cortex-A720 'LITTLE' core at 2.0GHz. This differs from the standard setup which usually includes more cores in the mid-range frequency.

According to benchmark tests, this specific core arrangement has a negligible impact on the processor's single-core performance in Geekbench 6 tests. However, the multi-core scores are approximately 16 percent lower compared to the standard eight-core variant of the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4.

The AQUOS R11's launch positions Sharp within the competitive smartphone market, where processor efficiency and performance are key differentiators. The choice to use a custom core configuration may indicate an effort to balance power consumption with specific user demands.
