Sheetz Closes and Rebuilds Stores Focusing on Food Offerings
The convenience chain Sheetz is closing aging locations in 2026 to rebuild them as larger, more food-centric stores with enhanced drive-through services.

Convenience store operator Sheetz has begun closing and rebuilding aging locations in 2026, prioritizing larger stores centered on food offerings, drive-through services, and faster customer processing. The company is phasing out older stores to replace them with updated formats.
These rebuilt locations will adopt Sheetz's newest store model, designed to elevate the restaurant-style customer experience and improve the efficiency of food preparation and service. Enhancements include additional Made-To-Order® stations, more self-checkout options, and upgraded self-service beverage bars.
Sheetz has addressed workforce adjustments by relocating employees from closed stores to nearby Sheetz locations or offering temporary positions within the company. The company stated these investments aim to create a better customer experience and equip employees with better resources.
The new store designs also accommodate increased vehicle fueling, including provisions for electric vehicles. For instance, a rebuilt store in Altoona, Pennsylvania, spans nearly 5,000 square feet and features 12 fueling pumps and a drive-through. Two stores in North Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, will each be approximately 6,140 square feet, also including drive-through windows and seating areas.
