CHARLESTON, S.C. – Palmetto Publishing announced the release of "And Then What Happened?", the memoir of Sheila James Kuehl. The book chronicles her journey from a child performer in early radio and television to becoming one of California's most significant political figures.

The memoir details Kuehl's early career, including her role as Zelda Gilroy on the popular series "The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis." The book offers a firsthand account of Hollywood's golden age and the early television industry from the perspective of a young actress navigating an industry that often prioritized conformity.

Kuehl's acting career reportedly ended when suspicions arose about her sexual orientation. Subsequently, she pivoted to academia, serving as an Associate Dean of Students at UCLA. She later earned a law degree from Harvard Law School, co-founded the California Women's Law Center, and began a political career. Kuehl made history as the first openly gay or lesbian individual elected to the California State Legislature.

"And Then What Happened?" is being released at a time of renewed interest in LGBTQ+ history and feminist advocacy. The book provides a personal perspective on the cultural shifts that have shaped California and the nation over five decades. The memoir is available in print and digital formats through major retailers.
