Shengzhou Jinwei details silicone heating solutions for EV battery preconditioning
Shengzhou Jinwei Electric Heating Appliance has introduced silicone-based heating pads designed to maintain lithium-ion battery performance in sub-zero temperatures.
Lithium-ion cells face severe efficiency drops and potential permanent damage when charged at temperatures near -30°C. Shengzhou Jinwei Electric Heating Appliance has developed specialized silicone heating pads to address these thermal constraints, particularly in vehicle architectures that lack integrated liquid coolant loops. By preconditioning the battery pack to a safe operating range, the heaters prevent lithium plating and associated capacity loss.
The firm’s heating pads provide a space-efficient alternative to conventional baseplate thermal management. With a thickness of 1.5 to 3.0 mm, the technology saves significant z-height, making it suitable for electric two-wheelers, mild hybrids, and air-cooled battery packs where space is at a premium. The pads operate independently of cooling pumps, allowing for battery preheating while the vehicle is stationary and charging.
The units utilize a five-layer laminate construction, featuring an etched-foil resistance circuit encased in fiberglass-reinforced silicone. This design ensures uniform thermal distribution across the cell surface. The company emphasizes that these components are qualified through standard industrial battery testing procedures to ensure material integrity during extreme thermal cycling between -40°C and +85°C.
