Sheryl Sandberg leads $10 million investment in AI-powered vehicle inspection service
Sheryl Sandberg has led a $10 million investment into Self Inspection, a startup using Artificial Intelligence to identify vehicle damage via smartphone.

Artificial Intelligence-powered vehicle inspection service Self Inspection has secured $10 million in new funding, with participation from notable investors including Sheryl Sandberg, former COO of Facebook, and DVx Ventures, founded by former Tesla executive Jon McNeill. The startup, founded in 2021, utilizes smartphone cameras and AI to identify vehicle body damage.
Self Inspection has so far completed over one million vehicle inspections for enterprise clients, including rental car companies, automotive finance firms, auctions, and marketplaces. A notable customer is Stellantis’ financial services arm, which uses the platform for its corporate-owned vehicles and for lease-end inspections.
The investment aims to expand the service and further develop its AI technology. Sandberg highlighted the potential for industry transformation in a sector critical to multi-billion dollar decisions, where vehicle condition data has historically been fragmented. Self Inspection seeks to establish a standardized system for managing this data.
The company focuses on streamlining and standardizing vehicle condition assessment, which could potentially accelerate and reduce costs for processes related to vehicle sales, service, and insurance.
