Shopify shares fall as quarterly revenue and volume miss analyst estimates
Shopify stock declined 9% on Tuesday after the e-commerce company reported third-quarter revenue and gross merchandise volume below market expectations.

Shares of Shopify dropped 9% during Tuesday's trading session following a mixed third-quarter earnings report. While the company exceeded per-share earnings expectations with 49 cents against a forecast of 46 cents, its top-line revenue of $3.74 billion fell slightly short of the $3.75 billion anticipated by analysts.
Key growth metrics also disappointed investors, with gross merchandise volume (GMV) totaling $119.15 billion, missing the $120.03 billion estimate. Additionally, subscription revenue and subscription gross profit both fell short of consensus targets, highlighting a potential cooling in the company’s recurring revenue streams.
Shopify provided guidance for the fourth quarter, projecting revenue growth in the low-thirties percentage range. This outlook sits below the 32.1% growth rate previously estimated by market analysts. The company’s failure to clear these key benchmarks prompted a sharp downward adjustment in share price.
