Shopify to Launch Shop Pay in India by Early 2027
Canadian e-commerce giant Shopify is set to introduce its Shop Pay service in India by the first quarter of 2027, aiming to compete with local payment providers.

Shopify, the Canada-based software provider, is preparing to launch its Shop Pay payment service in India. The company intends to challenge the domestic checkout market by leveraging its existing merchant network.
The service is slated for release in India by Q1 2027. Shopify is in discussions with multiple payment orchestration platforms to integrate local payment service providers. In India, Shop Pay is expected to operate alongside Shopify Checkout, offering an optional accelerated payment experience.
Shop Pay allows customers to save payment, shipping, and contact information for faster purchases across participating online stores. Shopify's existing base of Indian merchants provides a significant distribution advantage, as many direct-to-consumer brands already use Shopify for their e-commerce platforms.
However, Shop Pay enters a competitive Indian market populated by established players like GoKwik and Razorpay. These local rivals offer specialized features tailored to the Indian market. The success of Shop Pay will depend on its ability to outperform these competitors in pricing, conversion rates, and localized functionalities.
