Sibanye Stillwater acquires Rustenburg mining and concentrating operations
Sibanye Stillwater Limited has announced its acquisition of the Rustenburg mining and concentrating operations from Anglo American Platinum Limited. The transaction marks a significant expansion for Sibanye into the platinum group metals sector.

Sibanye Stillwater Limited has entered into an agreement to acquire the Rustenburg mining and concentrating operations currently held by Anglo American Platinum Limited. This move is expected to substantially bolster Sibanye's position within the platinum group metals (PGM) market.
The acquisition includes the Bathopele, Siphumelele, and Thembelani mining sites, along with associated concentrating plants and infrastructure. The deal also encompasses significant mineral reserves, offering potential for extended mine life and future growth.
This transaction positions Sibanye Stillwater as a major multi-commodity mining company, reinforcing its standing as a global gold producer while establishing it as a significant player in the PGM industry. The company aims to leverage the acquired assets to enhance its overall production profile.
The purchase consideration includes an upfront payment of R1.5 billion, with a deferred component based on the future cash flow generated by the Rustenburg operations over a six-year period. A minimum deferred payment has also been stipulated by the agreement.
