Charenton-le-Pont, France and San Ramon, California – EssilorLuxottica and CooperCompanies have completed their joint venture agreement for SightGlass Vision. This collaboration between two global vision care leaders aims to speed up the market introduction of novel spectacle lens technologies to expand the myopia management category.

SightGlass Vision's Diffusion Optics Technology™ embeds thousands of micro-dots within the lens. These dots softly scatter light, reducing retinal contrast, which is intended to slow the progression of myopia in children. The initiative addresses the growing global prevalence of myopia.

Myopia is projected to affect half the world's population by 2050 and is a leading cause of visual impairment in children. The joint venture intends to work with eye care professionals to increase awareness of existing solutions and improve access to these technologies.

In the long term, myopia can increase the risk of permanent vision impairment, including conditions such as macular degeneration, retinal detachment, cataracts, and glaucoma.
