Singapore General Hospital opens first phase of new emergency facility

Singapore General Hospital has launched the initial phase of its new emergency and neuroscience building, adding 84 inpatient beds to its campus.

4 November 2026

Singapore General Hospital (SGH) commenced operations in the first phase of its new Emergency/NNI building in December 2024. The project, which involved a decade of planning and construction, is designed to expand the hospital's capacity for acute care and specialized medical services.

Phase one introduces two acute medical wards totaling 84 beds, alongside new pharmacy and radiology services. An additional 26-bed unit has been established to support patient flow from the emergency department awaiting admission. The facility also houses a campus-wide utility plant responsible for power and chilled water distribution.

A dedicated Commissioning Secretariat has managed the project's infrastructure, overseeing quality assurance and coordinating between external contractors and internal hospital operations. This team, which includes safety specialists and facility managers, ensures the building meets strict medical standards before handovers.

The second phase of the development will fully integrate the SGH Emergency Department, specialist outpatient clinics, and administrative offices. The facility serves as a long-term infrastructure investment aimed at addressing the evolving healthcare demands within Singapore's medical sector.
