Singapore General Hospital (SGH) has been ranked the world's eighth best Academic Medical Centre (AMC) and the leading institution in the Asia Pacific region, according to the 2023 Brand Finance AMC Hospitals 100 study.
The hospital received high scores for its excellent facilities, adoption of the latest medical treatments and technology, and a strong culture of medical innovation. SGH attributes its success to over 200 years of experience in providing comprehensive, patient-centred care, training healthcare professionals, and conducting cutting-edge research.
Associate Professor Ruban Poopalalingam, noted that integrated education and research programmes are key to SGH's success. He highlighted the hospital's strong collaboration with other institutions within the SingHealth group, particularly its national specialty centres and the Duke-NUS Medical School. This collaboration drives the development of new care models, process improvements, and research.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, SGH leveraged its expertise to forge partnerships with industries for healthcare innovation development. The hospital has also invested in technologies such as AI, digitalization, and telemedicine, alongside developing virtual training methods to enhance the skills of its healthcare professionals.
