Singapore General Hospital uses automation for patient outcome collection

Singapore General Hospital (SGH) has adopted Robotic Process Automation (RPA) within its Physiotherapy Department to gather Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs). This initiative aims to enhance person-centric care and share knowledge across the SingHealth network.

The SGH Physiotherapy Department was among the first in the hospital to utilize RPA for collecting PROMs questionnaires, beginning in early 2022. PROMs are standardized surveys that capture patients' perspectives on their health conditions and quality of life, including pain levels and mobility. SGH uses this data to personalize physiotherapy treatment plans and monitor patient progress.

Jonathan Lim, a Senior Physiotherapist at SGH, has assisted SingHealth Polyclinic (SHP) in implementing RPA for their PROM collection. With support from SGH's Department of Future Health System's Artificial Intelligence and Automation (AIA) unit, SHP received the necessary software, licenses, and training.

Lim has also developed a guide detailing the implementation of RPA processes, covering data security, compliance, and safety. This guide will enable the SHP team to independently customize and manage the solution. SGH's Physiotherapy Department presented their work with RPA and PROMs to the wider SingHealth network in September 2023.
