Singapore launches Asia Hub for Mental Health Innovation

Singapore has launched the Mental Health Innovation Network (MHIN) Asia Hub on February 17, 2025, hosted by the SingHealth Duke-NUS Global Health Institute. This launch coincides with the inaugural Global Mental Health in Asia Symposium, which has brought together over 15 global and regional health leaders in Singapore.

The MHIN, initiated by the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2013, is expanding its reach into Asia. The Asia Hub is intended to facilitate a robust exchange of ideas and resources to enhance mental health strategies throughout the region, addressing the growing need for localized solutions.

Mental health has emerged as a significant concern in Singapore and globally. According to the Ipsos Global Health Service Monitor 2023, it topped health concerns in Singapore and 31 other countries, surpassing cancer and COVID-19. In Singapore, public concern about mental health rose from 41 percent in 2021 to 46 percent in 2023.

The symposium, taking place from February 17 to 19, serves as a platform for in-depth discussions and workshops covering pressing topics, including the impact of climate change on mental health. The event attracted over 70 speakers and 300 delegates from 25 countries, supported by a wide array of international and local partner organizations.
