Singapore's Prime Minister Lawrence Wong stated that the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) presents new growth opportunities for the nation. Addressing concerns about potential job displacement due to AI, Wong outlined a strategy to utilize new technologies to increase productivity while simultaneously creating higher-quality jobs.
Wong emphasized that while technological breakthroughs are creating previously unimaginable opportunities, they also bring new challenges. "We cannot stand still when others move forward, nor can we blindly accept every new technology," he said. Singapore will adopt advancements based on its specific needs.
Furthermore, the government intends to establish stricter protective measures for children's online safety, aiming to help them navigate the digital world safely and responsibly.
Preliminary data indicates Singapore's GDP grew by 5.7% year-on-year in the second quarter, a slowdown from the 6.3% growth in the first quarter. The Ministry of Trade and Industry now forecasts economic growth of 2% to 4% for the full year.
