Singapore-based space technology company OculloSpace launched its first experimental sounding rocket, named AZAD "The Dreamer", from Etlaq Spaceport in Duqm, Oman, on October 1, 2026. The rocket achieved an apogee of 10 kilometers.
The Karman X1 mission was conducted in collaboration with Stellar Kinetics MCT, an Oman-based aerospace company specializing in rocket development and launch operations. The self-funded program had been in development for approximately two years, according to OculloSpace.
OculloSpace reported that telemetry data was received throughout the flight, indicating successful burns for both rocket stages. However, the company noted that the upper-stage parachute failed to deploy.
The company is now developing AZAD-2, aiming for an altitude of 100 km, which is widely considered the boundary of space. Oman has also established a regulatory framework for space activities.
