Singapore's business events boom alongside Formula 1

Singapore has emerged as a significant hub for business events, with more than 40 conferences and summits held concurrently with the recent Formula 1 Grand Prix. This marks a substantial increase from the 25 events held during the race week in 2025 and underscores a growing trend for the city-state.

The concentration of high-profile events, including the Milken Institute Asia Summit, TOKEN2049, and the Forbes Global CEO Conference, drew a large number of international executives and investors. According to the Singapore Tourism Board, over 40 business events took place around the Grand Prix period this year.

The TOKEN2049 cryptocurrency conference saw a notable rise in international participation, with overseas attendees comprising 85.6% of the total, up from 82.7% in the previous year. Chinese attendees represented 11.8% of participants, nearly doubling their share from 2025 and surpassing American attendees as the largest international group.

This convergence of major business forums with the Formula 1 race capitalizes on the city's global profile and existing travel infrastructure. The strategy aims to maximize the economic benefits derived from both sectors. The Singapore Tourism Board has noted that business event visitors typically exhibit higher spending patterns compared to leisure travelers.

The ripple effect of these events is also evident in the hospitality sector, with reports of high occupancy rates at luxury hotels, such as Marina Bay Sands, during race week, highlighting the combined economic stimulus from major international gatherings and sporting events.
