Singapore's HugoHub powers Pakistan digital bank pilot

Singapore-based financial infrastructure company HugoHub has officially launched its platform for Pakistan’s HugoBank. The deployment, which processed its first pilot customer account on September 25, 2026, represents HugoHub's first operational engagement with a regulated financial institution.

The project currently operates under a restricted license issued by the State Bank of Pakistan. This regulatory framework allows the digital bank to test operational processes and product functionality within a controlled environment prior to a full-scale market entry. HugoBank was selected as one of the initial five participants in Pakistan's digital banking cohort.

Technically, the infrastructure integrates HugoBank with Pakistan’s established digital identity and payment ecosystems. This pilot arrives as Pakistan works to expand formal financial services; data from the World Bank indicates that as of 2024, only about 25% of the adult population in the country utilized banking or mobile money services.

Pakistan introduced its digital bank licensing framework in 2022. HugoBank aims to secure authorization for commercial operations by early 2027.
