Sinopec and partners launch global CCUS cooperation initiative

China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (Sinopec) launched an international initiative in September 2026 aimed at fostering global cooperation in carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) technologies. The announcement was made in Kazakhstan.

The initiative involves the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the International Organization for Cooperation on CCUS Technological Innovation. Its objective is to accelerate the development and deployment of CCUS solutions worldwide, which are considered crucial for mitigating climate change.

Sinopec, a major player in the global oil and gas industry, has integrated CCUS development into its strategy for achieving climate targets. The collaboration with Kazakhstan and other international partners supports these efforts.

Initial activities will focus on pilot projects and knowledge sharing within Kazakhstan. The aim is to establish a framework for broader international collaboration in the CCUS sector.
