Sinopec releases first global report on biodiversity conservation
China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (Sinopec) unveiled its inaugural global biodiversity report during the UN COP17 conference in Armenia.

Sinopec presented its first Global Biodiversity Conservation Report on October 29 at the COP17 conference in Yerevan, Armenia. The document details how the company incorporates biodiversity protection into its corporate governance, operational management, and international project life cycles.
The report outlines the integration of biodiversity considerations into the company’s Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) systems. Sinopec reports that by the end of 2025, it had decommissioned 992 oil wells, 112 gas wells, and 181 water wells, along with various storage facilities, as part of an effort to reduce industrial land use. Specific site transformations include converting former oil terminals on the Yangtze River into habitats for endangered species.
Internationally, the company highlights initiatives in Uganda, Ecuador, Angola, and Australia. These projects focus on wildlife corridor protection, tropical rainforest restoration, and marine monitoring. Sinopec stated that it intends to continue these conservation efforts alongside its global energy operations.
