SK Hynix Shares Plummet Amid Asian Tech Rout
SK Hynix shares fell over 8% as Asian technology stocks extended losses. Concerns over Federal Reserve rate hikes and AI investment financing weighed on the market.

South Korean chipmaker SK Hynix saw its shares plunge over 8% on Thursday, mirroring a broader rout in Asian technology stocks. The decline tracked losses on Wall Street, fueled by investor concerns about potential further interest rate hikes by the U.S. Federal Reserve and the financing of artificial intelligence (AI) investments.
Other technology-related companies in South Korea also experienced significant drops. LG Innotek fell 8.1%, Seoul Semiconductor shed 7.7%, and Samsung SDI declined 6.8%. In Japan, technology investment firm SoftBank Group tumbled 7.9%, while semiconductor equipment makers Advantest and Tokyo Electron also saw notable share price decreases.
The sell-off comes as investors grow increasingly concerned that rising borrowing costs could hinder the substantial capital expenditures required for building AI infrastructure. This sentiment is pressuring technology companies that have recently benefited from the AI investment boom.
The market downturn follows a challenging session on Wall Street where technology shares led the decline. Higher-than-expected U.S. inflation data released on Wednesday intensified fears that the Federal Reserve might implement additional interest rate increases.
