SK Hynix, SoftBank Shares Fall Amid Tech Stock Sell-Off
Asian technology stocks declined Tuesday as a sell-off in U.S. semiconductor shares spilled into regional markets. Concerns over artificial intelligence financing and intensifying competition weighed on sentiment.

Asian technology stocks experienced a significant drop on Tuesday, mirroring a sell-off in U.S. semiconductor shares that extended into regional markets. Investor sentiment was affected by worries surrounding artificial intelligence financing and increasing competition.
Shares of South Korean chipmaker SK Hynix, a key supplier of high-bandwidth memory chips essential for AI applications, plunged over 8%. Rival Samsung Electronics saw its stock fall by 6.7%. Both companies reached their lowest share prices since August.
In Japan, shares of the technology-focused investment giant SoftBank Group sank 8.8%. The conglomerate, with substantial investments in the global AI industry, led a broader decline across Japanese semiconductor and electronics stocks.
Other technology-related companies also faced pressure. Tokyo Electron, a major supplier of chipmaking equipment, dropped 6.75%, while semiconductor testing equipment maker Advantest declined 5.65%. Several other Japanese tech stocks also saw decreases.
The market movements followed a weak session for technology stocks on Wall Street, where the Nasdaq Composite index closed down 0.44% on Monday. Investors were also assessing increased competition from China's ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT), which reported progress on a new chip structure, impacting U.S. memory chip manufacturer Micron Technology.
