Skanska to Build Light Rail Transit in Van Nuys for $957 Million

Skanska, as part of a joint venture with Stacy Witbeck, has secured a contract with the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LA Metro) for the East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Transit Project in Van Nuys, California. The project involves constructing a 10.8-kilometer (6.7-mile) at-grade light rail line along Van Nuys Boulevard and developing a 10.5-hectare (26-acre) rail and maintenance facility.
The total value of the contract between LA Metro and the joint venture is $1.9 billion. Skanska's portion amounts to $957 million, which is approximately SEK 8.9 billion. This value will be recorded in Skanska's US order bookings for the third quarter of 2026.
The project aims to enhance public transportation within the San Fernando Valley. Construction activities will include the development of the light rail line at street level, along with associated stations and bridges. The maintenance facility will be a crucial component for the operational readiness and upkeep of the transit system.
