Skanska has secured a contract valued at USD 271 million (approximately SEK 2.5 billion) with NAVFAC Mid-Atlantic to build a new homeport pier at Naval Station Newport in Newport, Rhode Island, USA. This project aims to replace the existing Pier 1 with a modern facility designed to support U.S. Coast Guard vessels.
The scope of work includes the demolition of the current Pier 1, which measures approximately 482 meters in length and 30 meters in width. It will be replaced by a new pier measuring around 305 meters long and 24 meters wide, capable of berthing four U.S. Coast Guard Offshore Patrol Cutters.
The new facility will incorporate essential infrastructure to support docked vessels, including new substations, water and wastewater connections, and a compressed air system. The project also involves constructing approximately 8 meters of new bulkhead, site improvements, dredging, and underground utilities. Construction has commenced, with completion anticipated by March 2030. The contract value will be included in Skanska's U.S. order bookings for the third quarter of 2026.
