Skydio unveils fixed-wing F10 Lightrunner and new software platforms

Skydio, a US-based drone manufacturer, unveiled its first fixed-wing aircraft, the F10 Lightrunner, at its annual Ascend conference in September 2026. This marks Skydio's expansion beyond its traditional quadcopter designs. The announcement also included the MegaDock, an automated docking station, and two new software platforms: Asset Command and Security Command.

The F10 Lightrunner is designed for extended range and speed, enabling faster response times for emergencies and inspections of critical infrastructure. The aircraft can reach speeds up to 100 mph and has a flight radius of 30 miles, covering nearly 3,000 square miles from a single launch point. It utilizes a robotic takeoff and landing system that does not require ground personnel, and is slated for customer deployment in 2027.

The MegaDock, built for the F10, can house up to five aircraft and support concurrent missions from one location. The drone's SideEye camera design ensures unobstructed views, providing continuous coverage. Skydio's Foresight autonomy software handles real-time flight path planning and adjustments, while the Skydio Airspace Assurance System (SAAS) manages regulatory compliance and collision avoidance.

The new software platforms, Asset Command and Security Command, aim to enhance industrial and security operations. Asset Command is designed for managing large portfolios of fixed infrastructure, automating inspection routes by integrating with GIS and CMMS systems. Security Command transforms drone fleets into a persistent security surveillance capability, providing real-time aerial intelligence to security teams.

Skydio also introduced the Controller 2, a handheld controller, the Skydio Mobile App for secure video sharing, and camera software updates including ThermalBoost and Low-Light Enhance. The company is also upgrading its Transparency Dashboard with expanded tools for public sector clients.
