Skydog Sanctuary Demands Halt to Federal Wild Horse Sales Program After Slaughter Pipeline Confirmed

Skydog Sanctuary, the largest voice for wild horse and burro protection in the United States, has demanded an immediate suspension of the Bureau of Land Management's (BLM) federal wild horse sales program. The call follows confirmation by The New York Times, based on evidence including Skydog Sanctuary's year-long investigation, that horses sold through the program are being sent to slaughter.

The organization accuses the BLM of mismanaging the program, which they claim has become a "slaughter pipeline." The program, intended to manage land and provide homes for wild horses and burros, is allegedly being exploited by buyers who then sell the animals to slaughter facilities.

Whitney Graff, founder and director of Skydog Sanctuary, expressed profound disappointment and concern. "It is abhorrent that taxpayer dollars are being used for this cruelty and that our federal government allows this to continue," Graff stated. The sanctuary is pushing for the program's immediate termination.

Skydog Sanctuary has a history of rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming wild horses and burros. This latest demand represents a significant escalation in their advocacy efforts against BLM policies.
