Skysys integrates drones and robots for renewable energy operations

Skysys Intelligent Technology is employing a combination of drones and robots to enhance the inspection and maintenance of renewable energy infrastructure, particularly solar panels.

Traditionally, inspecting solar panels for defects like hot spots, damage, or dust buildup has been a labor-intensive and potentially hazardous process. Skysys' solution automates this by using drones for defect detection and robots for maintenance tasks such as cleaning. The company reports its systems are deployed at over 1,400 renewable energy sites globally, covering more than 40 GW of installed capacity.

In June 2025, Skysys announced it raised over RMB 100 million (approximately $13.7 million USD) in a Series B+ funding round. This capital is earmarked for productizing its renewable energy robots and expanding applications in urban low-altitude operations. This follows a similar Series B round a year prior.

The company's product evolution began with automated drone docking systems and progressed to include AI-based defect detection. Around 2018-2019, the technology was applied to solar farms, later expanding to power distribution, transmission, and substations. In recent years, Skysys has shifted from solely identifying issues to also performing maintenance, such as panel cleaning, to cover the entire workflow from detection to intervention.

Skysys is focusing its international business on Europe and the Asia-Pacific region. Solar panel cleaning robots are gaining traction in Europe due to high labor costs and the demand to improve the efficiency of existing solar assets. The company aims to increase its global brand recognition through partnerships with larger, more established companies.
