Slack, owned by Salesforce, has introduced Slack Code, a new product designed to bring AI coding agents directly into team chat channels. This feature enables collaborative AI-assisted software development, allowing entire teams to watch, steer, and review code in real-time.

Slack Code integrates various AI coding agents, such as Anthropic's Claude Code and Cognition's Devin, into dedicated Slack channels. When a coding agent is invoked in a conversation, it spins up a project-specific channel where code changes, previews, and plans are openly visible. This approach moves away from individual developer-agent interactions to a more transparent, multi-user workflow.

According to Slack's interim CEO Rob Seaman, the new platform aims to remove code itself as a bottleneck. "Ideas, taste, judgment, craft—those are the things that are the bottleneck, and you've effectively extended the population that can contribute ideas, taste, judgment, and craft to anybody that exists in your Slack," Seaman stated.

The launch is significant for Slack and the broader enterprise AI market, as the company bets on owning the collaborative layer around AI coding agents. Slack is positioning this as the next chapter in AI coding, focusing on transparency and collective contribution.

Slack Code also enhances agent integration within the product, offering direct agent messages, a new Agents tab for live status, and an easier "Add to Slack" flow for deploying agents from various platforms.
