SLENYTO® Prescription Melatonin Available in Canada for Children with Autism and Smith-Magenis Syndrome

SLENYTO® (melatonin extended-release tablets) is now available in Canada as a prescription treatment for insomnia in children and adolescents diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and/or Smith-Magenis syndrome (SMS).

Authorized for sale by Health Canada, SLENYTO® is the first and only prescription melatonin product in Canada for individuals aged 2 to <18 years. This availability offers a new therapeutic option for a significant population of children in Canada experiencing sleep difficulties associated with these conditions.

Autism spectrum disorder affects approximately 1 in 44 (2.25%) Canadian children and youth. Research indicates that a substantial percentage, ranging from 60-86%, of these children experience insomnia. Smith-Magenis syndrome is also commonly associated with significant sleep disturbances.

The introduction of SLENYTO® provides healthcare professionals with a targeted treatment to address chronic insomnia in pediatric patients with ASD and SMS. The extended-release formulation is designed to aid in both sleep onset and maintenance, potentially improving daily functioning and quality of life for affected children and adolescents.
