SLU Professors Awarded Major Prize for Research on Canine and Feline Heart Disease

Professors Jens Häggström and Ingrid Ljungvall from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) have been honored with the 2026 Major Research Prize in Veterinary Medicine. The prize acknowledges their significant contributions to the study of heart disease in dogs and cats.

The award, presented annually by Agria in collaboration with SLU, is recognized as the world's largest research prize in veterinary medicine and comes with a sum of one million Swedish kronor.

Häggström and Ljungvall's research has focused on improving the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac conditions in companion animals, leading to better health outcomes for affected pets.

The prize money will support ongoing research efforts aimed at further understanding the mechanisms of heart disease and developing novel therapeutic approaches for veterinary patients.
