SmartSens Technology, a Chinese semiconductor company, has introduced the SC570XS, a new 50-megapixel CMOS image sensor. The sensor, designed for mid-to-high-end smartphones and consumer imaging applications, utilizes a 1.0μm pixel size and is built on SmartSens's SmartClarity-XL Pro technology platform using a 22nm Stack process.

The SC570XS incorporates several of SmartSens's proprietary technologies, including Lofic HDR 3.0, SFCPixel-2, and AllPix ADAF. The sensor features a 1/1.56-inch optical format and aims to deliver high dynamic range performance across various shooting conditions. This is intended to enhance video quality and overall image texture, particularly in primary camera modules of smartphones, but also finds application in other areas like portable imaging devices and smart wearables.

With the integration of the Lofic HDR 3.0 technology, the SC570XS sensor can achieve a dynamic range of up to 111dB. This capability is based on a single exposure, three-frame fusion technique optimized for LOFIC pixel performance, supporting high gain output from LOFIC frames. Additionally, the sensor supports 4K video recording at 120 frames per second and 4K 60fps HDR video recording.

For autofocus, the SC570XS supports both 100% Full Pixel (AllPix ADAF) and 6% Sparse Phase Detection Autofocus (PDAF) modes. The company states that the Full Pixel mode ensures fast and stable focusing in low-light environments, while the Sparse PDAF mode reduces power consumption in well-lit conditions while maintaining accurate focus.

SmartSens Technology has announced that the SC570XS sensor is currently in mass production and available for sample orders.
