Smurfit Westrock plc has reached an agreement to acquire the containerboard and corrugated business of Companía Manufacturera de Papeles y Cartones S.A. (CMPC) in Chile. The transaction is expected to significantly strengthen Smurfit Westrock's position in the South American market, a key region for the company's growth strategy.
The acquired business includes two paper mills and nine corrugated box plants serving domestic and international customers. This expansion will increase Smurfit Westrock's production capacity and broaden its product offering in Latin America.
The transaction is anticipated to close in the first quarter of 2024, subject to customary regulatory approvals. Financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
