Sneaker Company Sues Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce Over Restaurant Name
Boston-based footwear brand 1587 Sneakers has filed a lawsuit against Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce's restaurant, 1587 Prime, alleging trademark infringement.

A lawsuit has been filed against Kansas City steakhouse 1587 Prime, owned by NFL stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, by a Boston-based sneaker company named 1587 Sneakers. The plaintiff alleges that the restaurant's name and branding infringe on their established trademark rights.
1587 Sneakers, which builds its brand around the number 1587 on its footwear, claims that the restaurant's name and merchandise are confusingly similar, leading to consumer confusion. The company states that customers have reached out believing the two brands are affiliated.
The restaurant, 1587 Prime, was opened in September 2025 in partnership with Noble 33. The name derives from the jersey numbers of Mahomes and Kelce. The lawsuit seeks to compel the restaurant group to cease using the name, stop selling branded merchandise, and pay unspecified damages.
Trademark attorney Josh Gerben noted that the timing of trademark applications is critical in this dispute. While 1587 Sneakers began selling shoes in April 2023, they did not file federal trademark applications for '1587' until October 2025. In contrast, the football players' company applied for the '1587 Prime' trademark in December 2023, which was prior to the sneaker company securing federal protection for its marks.
