Social Security: Special Cards Issued for US 250th Anniversary
The Social Security Administration (SSA) will issue special edition cards to newborns born between July 2 and December 31, 2026, to commemorate the United States' 250th anniversary.

The Social Security Administration (SSA) announced it will issue limited-edition Social Security cards to newborns born in the latter half of 2026. This initiative aims to commemorate the United States' 250th anniversary of independence.
The commemorative cards will be functionally identical to standard Social Security cards but will feature the official Freedom 250 logo. These cards are being issued as part of the Enumeration at Birth (EAB) program, which allows parents to apply for a Social Security number for their newborn during the birth registration process at hospitals or birthing centers. The SSA has operated the EAB program since 1987.
This special issuance is part of broader national commemorations for the nation's semiquincentennial. Various events are scheduled across the country to mark the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
