SoftAtHome and Orange Improve French Internet Service During Outages
SoftAtHome's Always'ON technology powers Orange's new "Reconnexion Flash" service, keeping French homes online during fiber outages by using smartphone hotspots.

Technology provider SoftAtHome announced that its Always'ON product is powering Orange's new "Reconnexion Flash" service in France. This service aims to maintain internet connectivity for French households during fiber line outages or maintenance.
When a fiber connection fails, the Livebox router automatically reroutes the connection through the customer's smartphone hotspot. All devices in the home remain online without requiring manual reconfiguration or additional hardware, eliminating the need for separate backup devices like 4G dongles.
Orange has remotely activated the service for customers equipped with the latest Wi-Fi 7 compatible Livebox 7 and Livebox S routers. The setup process is designed for simplicity: upon detecting an outage, the Livebox displays a QR code that links to a brief tutorial for enabling the smartphone's hotspot. The router then automatically connects to the mobile device.
This solution allows for continued internet access, including streaming services, during an outage. Services reliant on the fixed line, such as landline phone service and Orange's multicast TV channels, will resume once the fiber connection is restored.
