SoftAtHome Enables Orange's New "Reconnexion Flash" Service

SoftAtHome, an independent software provider for broadband, Wi-Fi, video, and analytics, has announced its Always'ON product is powering Orange's new "Reconnexion Flash" service for customers in France. This service ensures home internet connectivity continues even when the fiber connection is interrupted, by automatically redirecting traffic through the customer's own smartphone's mobile network.

The "Reconnexion Flash" service significantly reduces disruption for users during fiber connection outages or routine maintenance. Previously, such situations often required dedicated hardware like 4G modems or mobile routers. SoftAtHome's solution integrates directly into the customer's Livebox device, which detects the fiber interruption and switches to using the customer's smartphone as a mobile hotspot, eliminating the need for separate hardware or complex setup.

Orange has remotely activated the service for customers with recent Wi-Fi 7 compatible Livebox models, such as the Livebox 7 and Livebox S. Users do not need to install additional applications or configure VPNs. The service is designed for simplicity: the Livebox displays a QR code that customers use to set up their smartphone's hotspot settings and password. The Livebox then automatically connects to the detected smartphone. When the fiber connection is restored, the device seamlessly switches back to using it.

Orange states the service offers customers a quick and autonomous solution to maintain internet access during outages. SoftAtHome CEO Arnaud Bellivier de Prin emphasizes that the solution keeps homes online via the customer's smartphone while maintaining the operator's control over the customer experience. The service supports broadband gateway software environments, including prpl.
