SoftBank Corp. has successfully conducted the world's first ground-based laser ranging measurement utilizing Sceye's stratospheric platform. SoftBank's ground team tracked Sceye's high-altitude platform in real-time.
During the test, the ground station continuously received reflected laser signals from the platform. This demonstration supports the development of future free-space optical (FSO) communication links between the ground, stratosphere, and space.
The measurement, conducted in Moriarty, New Mexico, highlights the potential of HAPS (High Altitude Platform Station) technology for enabling robust, high-bandwidth optical communication. This capability is seen as crucial for future satellite and space-based communication networks.
This achievement represents a significant step forward in advancing FSO technology for integration into global communication infrastructure.
