Software Stocks Rally in Third Quarter, CNBC Reports

Software company stocks staged a notable comeback in the third quarter, reversing earlier declines driven by concerns over artificial intelligence, CNBC reported. The sector's performance contrasts with a cooling trend in semiconductor stocks, which had previously seen significant gains.

The iShares Expanded Tech-Software Sector ETF (IGV) rose 17% during the quarter, indicating a shift in market sentiment. This rebound suggests that investors are now more optimistic about software companies' ability to integrate AI as a growth driver rather than a disruptive force.

CNBC's Jim Cramer highlighted Salesforce, whose stock increased by 46% in the quarter. The company's efforts in AI integration, strong financial results, and share buybacks were cited as key factors. Microsoft also saw a substantial gain of 37%, with Cramer expressing confidence in its continued growth prospects fueled by its Azure cloud platform and Copilot AI.

Other beneficiaries included Workday and Veeva, which experienced significant stock price increases. Cybersecurity firms like CrowdStrike also performed well. However, Cramer cautioned that rising interest rates pose the primary risk heading into the next quarter, potentially impacting rate-sensitive stocks.
